GRAND TERRACE>> The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department reported that in 2015, the department responded to more than 360 false alarms. The department said there were more than 30 residential and businesses within Grand Terrace that had more than three false alarms during the year, with one address with more than 15 false alarms during this time period. Chapter 4.24.010 of the city’s municipal code imposes a fine of $55 for any residential/business address with more than three false alarms during a twelve month period. In addition, all alarms are required to be registered at the time of installation, unregistered alarms constitute a violation of the city’s Municipal Code and residents/businesses and alarm company installers are subject to a $100 administrative fine. If residents/businesses have a false alarm and the alarm is not permitted, the fine will be imposed. However, if you receive an administrative citation for an unregistered alarm, your fine maybe waived if you register the alarm within 10 days, if you were not given prior notice to register the alarm. City staff encourages residents to contact their alarm service provider and have them register your alarm or do it yourself by visiting the city’s website. There is no fee to register your alarm. City staff also encourages residents to only use alarm companies with a valid city business license.
