SAN BERNARDINO>> Arrowhead United Way sponsored STEM Day for the Black Future Leader’s Inc. Weekend Residency program at California State University, San Bernardino. STEM Day provided 40 students the opportunity to build several small robots including a nano bug and a scribble bot taught by San Bernardino Community College District instructors. “The opportunity for students to be exposed to STEM education is an important step in their future careers,” said CEO and President of Arrowhead United Way Doug Rowand. “We are proud to support the engineers of our future.” Black Future Leaders Inc., a program for African American students to develop leadership skills and build self-esteem to help them reach their full academic potential, stretches across San Bernardino and Riverside Counties with students from San Gorgonio High School, Cajon High School, Citrus Valley High School in Redlands and other local schools. Throughout the day, students designed, assembled and built their small robots. Students also learned about different kinds of motors, electrical circuits, how to wire a momentary control switch and mechanical design.
