From the Opening Tribute to Leonard Bernstein’s 100th Birthday, the Symphony’s First Christmas Concert in Decades, Members of the World-Famous Emerson String Quartet Performing Mozart to Two Choral Master Works by Vivaldi and Bach – The Symphony’s 69th Season Promises Musical Greatness!
With the theme “Imagination Takes Flight” the Symphony’s 69th season offers a broad selection of classical masterpieces, along with performances by internationally acclaimed soloists and, for the first time in decades, a fully staged Christmas concert with singing actors, a full orchestra and the Inland Master Chorale.
Redlands Symphony concerts are performed on Saturday nights starting at 8 PM in Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Redlands. There is ample free parking adjacent to the concert hall.
“I’m excited to present this new season of wonderful music, with our critically acclaimed orchestra and some of the world’s most accomplished soloists,” says Maestro Ransom Wilson, the orchestra’s Music Director and Conductor, “We have used the summer months to begin preparing for our 18-19 season, including holding auditions for the principal signing roles in A Christmas Carol – The Concert, our first holiday concert in decades. It’s going to be quite a year and I’m eager to get back on the podium and begin making music again.”
In addition to single tickets, three different types of subscription options are also available for sale, offering a substantial discount over single ticket prices as well as the opportunity to pick the best seats available. Prices for a full subscription of six concerts range from $67.50 to $315. A Pick-4 subscription that allows the subscriber to pick any four concerts of their choice, ranges from $51 to $238. Redlands Symphony also offers its Symphony Select card for $159. A Symphony Select card provides six tickets in the best seats available (excluding Golden Circle) at any concert on any date. Card holders can use two (2) tickets per concert, all tickets at once, or in any other combination.
Discounted ticket packages for groups of 5 or more are also available, with a savings of up to 30%. There is a special discount for students, and University of Redlands students are always free.
Redlands Symphony’s 18-19 Season
The new season began on November 3, 2018 with The Genius of Bernstein, as the orchestra celebrated the composer’s 100th birthday.
For the first time in decades, the Redlands Symphony will present a holiday program: A Christmas Carol: The Concert. The piece is based on the classic novella by Charles Dickens, with original music composed and arranged by Bob CHRISTIANSON, with lyrics and book adaption by Alisa Hauser and will be presented on Saturday, December 15, 2018. This staged musical concert includes five singing actors and the Inland Master Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Modica. The musical score includes the Emmy nominated song “No Trouble.”
On February 2, 2019, Maestro Wilson continues his exploration of the works Mozart with a concert titled The Magic of Mozart. This concert will feature the solo appearance of Lawrence Dutton and Phil Setzer, members of the world-famous Emerson String Quartet, performing MOZART’S Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra, K. 364. The program also includes Divertimento in D, K. 136, and Symphony No. 36 “Linz”, both by Mozart. Maestro Wilson will conduct.
“I am thrilled and honored to have members of the Emerson String Quartet perform with our orchestra here in Redlands. This will be a remarkable musical event,” according to Maestro Wilson.
The Romance of Schumann, featuring the works of Romantic composer, Robert SCHUMANN, is the theme of the Symphony’s concert on March 2, 2019. Maestro Wilson will conduct a program featuring Schumann’s Overture to Genoveva, Op. 81, and Symphony No. 1 “Spring.” This concert will also feature a performance by the University of Redlands School of Music Concerto Competition Winner, with that program yet to be determined.
The fifth concert in the Symphony’s 18-19 season features Heavenly Voices from the University of Redlands Chapel Singers performing the Gloria by VIVALDI and BACH’S Magnificat in D. The Chapel Singers are directed by Dr. Nicholle Andrews, Director of Choral Students at the University of Redlands. This concert will be performed on April 6, 2019. Maestro Wilson will conduct.
The 18-19 season will end on May 18, 2019 with The Glorious Gift of Birds, a program featuring STRAVINSKY’S Song of the Nightingale, VIVALDI’S Concerto for Flute in D. op. 10 no. 3 “Goldfinch,” RAUTAVAARA’S Concerto for Birds and Orchestra and the Swan Lake Suite, op 20a by TCHAIKOVSKY.
One of Redlands Symphony’s own, Sara Andon (Principal Flute), will perform as soloist. Maestro Ransom Wilson will conduct.
