On May 3rd, 2025, veterans and supporter from across Southern California will gather for the annual “Steps for Vets’ event, a heartfelt initiative aimed at honoring and supporting, military veterans and help to prevent veteran homelessness. Held at the March Veterans Village, 15301 6th Street, March Air Reserve Base across from the commissary. This event promises a day of solidarity, fitness and community fun, and will be a great time for families, and friends who support our military veterans.
The event kicks off at 8:00am with registration beginning at 7:00am. U.S.VETS Executive Director Nicole Starks-Murray and Master of Ceremonies Jeff Pope will be welcoming participants and attendees alike with a fun interactive opening ceremony. U.S.VETS National Director Jovan Bowles once again will serve as the Warm-Up Master and provide a fun and lively warmup session, warming those muscles and hearts for the timed race. The event is geared for all ages and activity levels, you can run the 3.2 mile course or walk it, there is also a pedal station for those who would like to sit and pedal. This event is open to everyone from veterans who have served to families and supporters, everyone is encouraged to register and join the activities designed to support the veterans’ contributions and sacrifices. Children 17 years of age and younger are free.
The center piece of the event is a 5K walk/run, starting at 8:00am, that will take you through the streets of the old March Air Base which was built in 1917 and is the oldest military base this side of the Mississippi. The route is accessible for all fitness levels and ages. Along the route markers will highlight the sponsors who made the run possible.
Additionally, the event features various booths, food vendors and exciting opportunities to pose with your favorite Star Wars personality, and maybe a sighting of a Ninja Turtle. Local businesses will set up booths offering resources, and support for veterans and the community.
“Steps for Vets” is not just a community event but a testament to the ongoing commitment to veterans’ welfare and appreciation. It serves as a reminder that no veteran should be left homeless on the streets, they so bravely fought for. Freedom is not free, and the event acknowledges the sacrifice and commitment to our beautiful nation by these brave men and women we call our veterans.
Participants are encouraged to register early to secure their spot and contribute to this meaningful, cause. Whether walking, running or simply attending to show support, everyone can play a part in making a difference in the lives of veterans.
