On July 3, 2014, the Colton Police Department lost a member of their family. K9 Dax, an eight and a half year veteran with the police department, developed a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
K9 Dax and partner Corporal Paul Grimes were teamed up since January 2008, protecting not only the city of Colton, but also the Inland Empire.
Corporal Grimes and K9 Dax had well over 1,000 deployments, including numerous criminal apprehensions, surrenders and narcotic finds.
Together they enjoyed doing demonstrations for the public to show off Dax's many skills and abilities. Amongst San Bernardino County's K9 teams, Corporal Grimes and Dax were considered to be mentors and examples of leadership and professionalism.
K9 Dax's End of Watch came with Corporal Grimes and his family by his side.
A memorial for K9 Dax will be forthcoming.
