Advance to Go! Collect $200! Playing games and raising money went hand-in-hand at the 7th annual Monopoly board-game tournament at The Grove School in Redlands. Recently, players from all over the state and even a few from as far away as Australia came to participate in the classic Hasbro game to raise money to help graduating seniors to continue their education. Amber Claflin, president of The Grove School Parent-Teacher Group, has been hosting the event for the past two years along with her husband Doug. Their two sons attend The Grove and their 12-year-old son qualified to play in the adult round of the competition. Claflin shared that the event was successful and that participants in the tournament shared a day of polite competition. She explained that the final four competitors went head-to-head with winners from last year's tournament to determine the winners. There were 37 players in attendance and the tournament was open to students from grades 6 to 12 and adults. The head judge of this event was Tim Vandenberg, who earned 2nd place in the 2009 Monopoly Tournament. The winners of the 2014 Monopoly Tournament were Ben Hooper and Daniel Richards-Dinger. Over all, The Grove School raised almost $3,000 to go towards scholarships for students.
