California is experiencing one of the driest periods in its history. Governor Jerry Brown has declared a drought state of emergency and has directed the State Water Resources Control Board to adopt a program to reduce water use by 25 percent overall throughout the state. At Riverside Highland Water Company we have been tasked with 36 percent water reduction, as was many inland water agencies including Yucaipa Valley, Redlands and Loma Linda.
Water agencies across California are implementing water conservation measures to comply with the regulations. The following are the State mandated restrictions that the Riverside Highland Water Company Board of Directors has adopted.
The existing restrictions for everyone include:
* Using potable water to wash down driveways and sidewalks.
* Watering of outdoor landscapes that cause excess runoff.
* Using a hose to wash a motor vehicle, unless the hose is fitted with a shut-off nozzle.
* Using potable water in a fountain or decorative water feature, that does not recirculate the water.
* Using outdoor irrigation during and 48 hours following measurable precipitation.
* No draining and refilling of swimming pools, you may maintain the level in your pool.
* All water leaks are to be repaired in a timely manner.
* Restricting all outdoor irrigation to no more than 3 days per week, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. Please refer to the enclosed map for your outdoor watering schedule and times.
Existing restrictions for business include:
* Restaurants and other food service establishments can serve water to customers on request only.
* Hotels and motels must provide guests with the option of not having towels and linens laundered daily.
In addition to the published restrictions, we would like to encourage our shareholders and customers to continue to use water wisely. Fixing all water leaks and eliminating the unnecessary waste of water are vital to ensure our water needs are met, now and into the future.
