LOMA LINDA>> A major milestone was passed in the construction of the new hospital at Loma Linda University Health. On Thursday, March 23, more than 5,000 yards of concrete was brought in for Saturday March 25th's 10-hour overnight workathon. In what LLU Medical Center CEO Kerry Heinrich calls, "an amazing amount of choreography," at least 550 concrete trucks delivered their loads on the tight schedule of about one per minute. This is the first "Big Pour," as leaders are calling it, of a process that will eventually amount to 18,000 concrete yards and a four-foot-thick foundation reinforced with steel. The pour was conducted on a weekend night in order to minimize impacts on patients, visitors and general traffic in the area. Bright lights were placed to illuminate the milestone in the construction of Loma Linda's new hospital complex. [END]
