Mayor Paul Foster, members of the City Council, and the City of Redlands held a ribbon cutting Friday to commemorate the construction of shade sail structures at nine parks within the city.
The ribbon cutting took place at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Community Park at the corner of San Bernardino Avenue and Church Street.
The City of Redlands has begun construction on shade sail structures at nine city parks to provide coverage and encourage year‐round use of playground equipment and picnic areas.
“This project was funded by proceeds from the Palmetto Grove sale, which included allocations for parks and recreation improvements throughout the city. As part of the project, shade sails – an engineered canvas cover tensioned between several anchor points – will be installed over playground equipment and picnic tables,” said Mayor Foster.
In addition to the shade sails installed at Community Park, construction will continue to install shade sails at Ford Park, Brookside Park, Crafton Park, Texonia Park, Israel Beal Park, Jennie Davis Park, Heritage Park and Sylvan Park.
