Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Week brought a festive recognition of friends at TownGate Elementary. Fifth-grade student leaders and counselor Tina Arias passed out friendship bracelets during recess and asked students to share some of their friendship experiences. Students were invited to send a Friendship Gram to someone special and were encouraged to reach out to students who could use a friend. Yellow Ribbon Week promotes suicide awareness and prevention and is recognized every September. Suicide, amazingly, is the second-leading cause of death for youth age 10-18. TownGate students know how important it is to make friends and show others that they care.
