An ongoing issue with the City of Grand Terrace for the last few years has been the sound and noise emanating from the National Orange Show when certain programs sponsored by Insomniac Events are being held.  At the Council Meeting held in November of this year, Kelsi Ring, Communications Manager for Insomniac Events which is a Division of Live Nation spoke about the event held at the Nation Orange Show on October 27-28, Escape Psycho Circus.  She said, “What happened during the event was very unique and unusual because she had not experienced the amount of calls and emails from Grand Terrace residents during a single show over the past three (3) years working for Insomniac Events.  Normally, a small show as this was receives approximately three (3) to five (5) complaints and if it is a larger event maybe 10 to 15.  This year, the organization received 10 times the typical amount of complaints for an event.  I feel the weather was a large contributing factor for the noise and sound waves bending in the direction of Grand Terrace due to frequencies, temperature inversion layers and altitude in all directions which is hard to mitigate, especially how hot it was and how loud the sound was refracting into the area.”  Because of the complaints, Insomniac lowered the sound 10 decibels lower than what they have programmed over the past six (6) years and it was a struggle to make it work.  Another reason that was given for the increase volume of sound was that the organization expanded the festival and added more outdoor structures.  In the future because of the past increased noise levels, the set ups will be restructured.

The change in set ups will occur in the two events scheduled before the 1st of the Year 2018, which includes setting up the tents to not face Grand Terrace head on, and hopefully the temperature levels will be lower and the sound will not travel as fast and as far.  Insomniac will have sound engineers monitoring 24/7 and visit the different neighborhoods when any complaint surfaces.  Ring says, “The organization is committed to improving and bettering their strategies for this year and into the future.”  Insomniac is looking to meet with the City in early 2018 to work out any problems that needs to be rectify for events in the future.
