Riley, Roosevelt and Vermont Elementary Schools presented the Outstanding Student, Parent, and Employee Awards in earlier this year. Each of the honorees contributes to the District’s goals of maintaining safe, respectful, and welcoming environments and high expectations for student and staff performance.
The following are the award recipients from Vermont Elementary School, located at 3695 Vermont St. in San Bernardino, under Principal Ana Maria Perez:
Third grader Eliza Rodriguez Campos is an Outstanding Student Award winner. She is a high achiever, scoring proficient or above in both language arts and math. She is a determined and self-motivated learner, making her a good role model for her peers. Eliza wants to attend college and become an oncologist. Her ultimate goal is to find a cure for cancer.
Erika Campos-Calleros is an Outstanding Student from Kerri Valenzuela’s class. She is a focused, dedicated student. She shows good character, valuing the success of others as much as her own. Erika wants to study law at Stanford and become an attorney. She even practices being a lawyer when she plays with her siblings.
Second-grade teacher Donna Espinoza selected Alan Javier Martinez as an Outstanding Student Award winner. Alan goes beyond what is required to challenge himself in every subject. After memorizing the multiplication tables required for second grade, he memorized additional multiplication tables. When he earned an atlas as a class prize, Alan memorized all 50 states. Alan wants to graduate from college and become president of the United States of America.
Rosa Loera earned Vermont’s Outstanding Parent Award. She is one of the most involved parents at Vermont. Loera is very involved in her children’s education, frequently volunteering in their classrooms. She is also a member of the School Site Council, the English Learner Advisory Committee, and the Parent–Teacher Organization. This makes her an important member of the Vermont Elementary community.
Kaelon Kroft is Vermont’s custodian and an Outstanding Classified Employee. His co-workers admire his drive and commitment and the students like and respect him because they know he cares. He goes beyond his regular duties and work hours to make sure the school is clean and safe for every student. He supports the school’s Food for Families Distribution and the Fall Carnival. Kroft is a vital member of the Vermont Elementary School team.
Donna Espinoza is Vermont Elementary School’s Outstanding Certificated Employee. She is Vermont’s biggest cheerleader and supporter. She works with administrators and staff to help all students advance academically. After a day of teaching, Espinoza often volunteers her own time to plan events for parents and students. She is famous for the rallies and assemblies she plans to keep staff and students motivated to achieve.
Students, staff and parents were recognized alongside Riley and Roosevelt Elementary schools this year.
