The Inland Master Chorale presents holiday music from around the globe with its Christmas Around the World concert on Dec. 12 and 13 at the First United Methodist Church, 1 East Olive Avenue in Redlands.
The program includes music from more than a dozen countries. Many are well-known carols including “Carol of the Bells” from Ukraine, “Il Est Ne (He is Born)” from France, “A La Nanita Nana” from Ecuador, and “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly” from Poland.
A jazz version of “Silent Night,” originally from Germany, features tenor soloist Mark Isaak.
The Spanish tune “Riu, Riu, Chiu” includes solo verses by bass Kevin Wenzel, soprano Angelica Olmedo, alto Wendy Lopez, and baritone Kirk Young. Violinist Deanna Morrison will accompany the Chorale on “Away in a Manger” as Heather Duffer provides sign language interpretation.
Other selections include “Betelehemu” from Nigeria, “African Noel” from Liberia, “Salvation is Created” from Russia and “Iesu Ka Ho’ola” from Hawaii.
The 60-member chorale is under the direction of Roger Duffer, with associate Melva Morrison who also serves as accompanist.
The Chorale’s concert season continues March 5 and 5, 2016 when female composers are featured in “Music, She Wrote.” The season finale, “Just for the Fun of It!” on May 14 and 15, 2016, offers light-hearted selections from a variety of genres.
