MORENO VALLEY>> It is just not every day that an Emmy-winning, Tony-winning, Oscar-nominated actor drops by a local classroom. But, that is exactly what happened at Midland Elementary, as famed actor Edward James Olmos visited teacher Rick Wallace’s fourth-grade class at Midland Elementary School. Olmos was there to encourage the students in their work with the Latino Film Institute Cinema Youth Project, a program founded by Olmos that provides an immersive experience in the art of filmmaking. The program has proved to be a great way to foster literacy, creativity, leadership, collaboration and other critical skills. Olmos may be best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as math teacher Jaime Escalante in the movie, “Stand and Deliver.” [END]
