Moreno Valley High School's AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program started 13 years ago as a small group of staff and students focused on graduating strong and heading to college.
This year, the program is bigger than ever, with 107 AVID grads who have received a total of 401 college acceptances to dozens of colleges across the country, and who have been offered a total of $2.5 million in financial aid, 76 percent in the form of scholarships and grants.
So it was with a justifiable sense of pride that staff, students and families recently came together at the Moreno Valley Conference Center to recognize and congratulate each one of MVHS's record number of AVID graduates with personal anecdotes and remembrances.
