MORENO VALLEY>> There are more accolades for the Valley View High School marching band as junior French Hornist and Crimson Regiment Horn Sergeant Josiah Wallace has been accepted to perform in the All-Southern Symphonic Band.
Wallace, who had to audition for the spot with Southern California School Band & Orchestra (SCSBOA) All-Southern Honor Bands, is one of an elite group of Southern California student musicians to be selected.
In January, Wallace will get to connect and collaborate with students from all over the region as they rehearse for two full days and perform a one-night-only concert as part of the SCSBOA Conference and NAMM Show.
This year the Symphonic Band is under the direction of retired high school director Alfred Watkins, famed for being the Associate Director for the 1996 Olympics marching band for opening ceremonies.
The SCSBOA website states that today, the SCSBOA is the largest professional organization serving music teachers in 11 southern counties of California. It serves more than 1,000 schools in the Southern California region, affecting more than 100,000 students in instrumental music.
