It was a night filled with hot dogs, hot wings, beverages, music, singing and dancing to raise money for the Kiwanis Club of Redlands-Morning Scholarship Fund. This first time event, dubbed the Oldies but Goodies Fundraiser, took place at the Rodriguez Ranch.
John Coley, President of the club, shared that his favorite part of the event was the commeroderey between attendees and memebers and the "outstanding team-work," that went on there. He went on to say that the club's Scholarship Foundation benefits students at Redlands East Valley High School and also contributes to the Redlands Human Relations Commission Cesar Chavez Scholarship.
Carole Coley, John's wife, has been a member of the Kiwanis Club for 16 years and said, “We were looking for a new to raise money for our scholarship fund. We decided to use music from the oldies era for the karaoke contest because everyone likes that music. She shared, "A couple of guests did a great rendition of The Temptations, 'My Girl'. We gave out free hot dogs, sold hot wings plates, had Hanger 24 beer and served margaritas.”
Martha Warren, Michelle Coley and Patty Peoples won the karaoke contest with their rendition of "We are Family" by Sister Sledge.
The Coley's both categorize the event as a success and hope to plan another similarly themed fundraising event in the future.

It was a night filled with hot dogs, hot wings, beverages, music, singing and dancing to raise money for the Redlands Community Scholarship Foundation. On Saturday April 12, 2014 at the Rodriguez Ranch, the Redlands Morning Kiwanis Club hosted the first time event, Oldies but Goodies Fundraiser.
Carole Coley has been a member for 16 years and said, “It was our first time doing this, and we were looking for a new to raise money for our scholarship fund. We decided to use music from the Oldies (music from the 60s, 70s and 80s) era because everyone likes that music. We had tables decorated, and our DJ played actual records. We had a hula hoop, candies, karaoke, a disco ball and a couple of guests did a rendition of The Temptations, “My Girl” [which was great]. We gave out free hot dogs and sold hot wings plates, had Hanger 24 beer, and served margaritas. Although it was a bit cool, it was a nice affair.”
The scholarships benefit students from Redlands East Valley High School and also goes towards the Cesar Chavez Scholarship. There were 65 people who attended and everyone enjoyed it and wanted to have another event with that theme.
The Redlands Morning Kiwanis Club was founded on September 11th in 1980 and the Kiwanis motto is, “a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child, one community at a time.”
Coley said, “We accept donations for the scholarships and donations can be mailed to Redlands Morning Club Kiwanis, PO Box 127 Redlands Ca, 92373. If anyone is interested in joining, you can contact Carole Coley at (909)335-2474 or email C.Coley@verizon.net
