San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce 41ST Annual Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner

On Thursday, June 8th the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce held its forty-first Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner. Several nominations were submitted from several local Law Enforcement agencies for the 2017 Officer of the Year award. All the nominees were being recognized “For going beyond the call of duty and demonstrating the skills, initiative and bravery required of an outstanding Police Officer”. The nominees from the San Bernardino Police Department (SBPD) were Detective Daniel Han; Officer Clint Walton, Detective John Echeverria, and the Community Engagement’s Canine Sherlock and his handlers Lt. Vicki Cervantes and Community Engagement Officer Eileen Hards. The nominees from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBSD) were Deputy Kyle Glozer (Highland Station), Detective Bryan Wellott (Central Station). The nominee from the San Bernardino City Unified School District Police Department (SBCUSDPD) was Officer Ovie Telley. The nominee from the San Bernardino Community College District Police Department (SBCCDPD) was Officer Gina Gonzales. The nominees from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were Officer Robert Anderson, Officer Jeremy Burt, and Officer Sergio Mendez. The nominee from the California State University San Bernardino Campus Police Department (CUSSBPD) was Julie Barbro-Barcia. The Honorable James Ramos, SB County Supervisor, introduced the Sheriff’s Department nominees. The Honorable David Mazurek, Superior Court Judge, introduced the nominees for the CHP. The Honorable Marc Steinorth, State Assembly 40th District, introduced the nominees from the School Police Department, College Police Department and the CSUSB Campus Police. The Honorable Glen Yabuno, Superior Court Judge, introduced the nominees form the San Bernardino PD. The San Bernardino City Mayor, Carey Davis, announced and recognized the 2017 Officer of the Year for each agency. From the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, the Officer of the Year went to Deputy Kyle Glozer (Highland Station). Some of Deputy Kyle’s accomplishments are: 14 years with the department, has received three Grand Theft Auto awards, and promoted to Field Training Officer (FTO); Kyle has created an Active Shoot class for the community, works with the Explorer Program, and has placed third in the ExCon companion in Las Vegas. From the San Bernardino Police Department, the Officer of the Year went to Detective John Echeveria. Some of Detective Echevrria’s accomplishments are SWAT, FTO, has served as a K9 Officer, awarded the Police Start of Merit for his involvement in the December 2nd terrorist attack, Captain on the Baker to Vegas team, involved in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, and John is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Public Administration at CSUSB. From the California Highway Patrol, the Officer of the Year went to Officer Jeremy Burt. Some of Officer Jeremy’s accomplishments are: administering lifesaving Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a victim for 45 minutes, single handedly put out a vehicle fire which was fully engulfed in fire using a nearby water truck, and Officer Jeremy has been known to purchase meals for struggling motorist. Canine Sherlock was awarded K9 of the Year, and his handlers Lieutenant Vicki Cervantes and Community Engagement Officer Eileen Hards were awarded K9 Handlers of the year. “Sherlock is a four-year-old Irish Wolfhound- Labrador mix who was returned to the Yucaipa Animal Placement Society numerous times before being adopted by the SBPD as their Community Affairs. Sherlock brought peace and calm to the children after the horrific Northpark Elementary School shooting and participates in many community and school programs such as Tip-a-Cop and Special Olympics torch run. Sherlock spends night and weekends with Handler Lt. Vicki Cervantes and days with Community Engagement Officer Eileen Hards.” Several Dignitaries from throughout the county attended this affair to honor and respect these Law Enforcement professionals and the work they do.
