SBCCD and Crafton Hills College to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for Regional Public Safety Training Center
The center will complete already constructed public safety training facilities, elevating the expertise of students training to become first responders

The San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) and Crafton Hills College (CHC) invite the public to a groundbreaking event, kicking off the Measure CC projects at the Yucaipa-based college. The groundbreaking event for the new Public Safety Training Center begins at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, at Crafton Hills College at 11711 Sand Canyon Rd., Yucaipa, Calif., 92399. All area residents, stakeholders, alumni, and community members are welcome to join SBCCD Chancellor Diana Z. Rodriguez, CHC President Dr. Kevin Horan, District 23 State Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, and the SBCCD Board of Trustees to celebrate the start of construction for this transformational project. The ceremony will include comments from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, who recently donated $1.8 million to the CHC Fire Academy Program. San Manuel Fire Department Chief Keith Alexander said the investment aligns with key priorities of the Tribe to advance opportunities to everyone, regardless of background, while protecting lives and property. “Public safety is essential for a safe and secure community that requires heart, courage, and skills to serve your community and others in need. The Tribe holds community as one of their top values,” Chief Alexander said. “It is an honor to support the fire academy to build skills and capabilities among those who have the heart to give and a desire to serve others.” CHC’s premier first responder training programs prepare students for employment with fire departments and emergency medical responders throughout the state of California. The Public Safety Training Center completes the state-of-the-art Public Safety and Allied Health (PSAH) facilities constructed in 2015. Plans for the building include features replicating commercial and residential labs that enhance training capabilities, including offering simulations that replicate real-life emergencies.
