New Year Message from Mayor Eddie Tejeda

On behalf of my wife and my entire family, we wish everyone a Happy New Year for 2023 with the hope that it be filled with prosperity, good health, and endless moments of joy. It is a true honor and blessing to serve you as the mayor of our community. Our people embrace anyone who is willing to work to make a positive impact on the lives of others, so thank you for accepting my entire family and me as part of this community. We have a rich diversity of people here and the one thing that binds us together is the desire to live in a community that loves and respects one another regardless of our differences. We are a small community with the heart of a big city and a strong desire to remain intimate and cozy as our population grows. I strongly believe that our city’s future is bright and that it is imperative for our people to participate in the governing process to ensure their city leaders make informed decisions. In my time on the City Council, I have come to learn that it is impossible to please everyone, especially with the varying opinions about how we grow into the future. I am committed to developing a consensus among us to arrive at a point where most of us will believe that our city is moving in the right direction, resulting in an overall benefit. I was elected to the City Council in 2016 and again in 2020 to represent District 2, each time with a commitment to the following principles: Community, Economy, and Quality of Life. These commitments reflect my own personal beliefs about what our city government should be focused on. I believe that working on these commitments will ensure that almost everyone is confident that they live in a place that is safe to raise a family and establish roots, like my family. After I was selected to serve as Mayor by my colleagues, my father called me to ask how I was feeling and my response to him was that I felt prepared to be in this position. He told me that he was relieved to hear this and that he would pray for me every day to ensure that God would bless me with the wisdom that is necessary for me to be successful. I ask those of you who have a religion to pray for the same as well. I ask those who have another form of spirituality to consider the same in your own unique way. I ask for those who are not religious but believe in the capacity for people to do good unto one another to send positive energy in my direction. I acknowledge that I am not the only council member entrusted with such great responsibility and that each of my colleagues plays a vital role in the process of governing our city.
