Bringing Joy in Water Media

Water media artist Al Setton will be front and center at the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association* monthly meeting, Sunday, March 10, from 2 to 4 pm. Setton brings his “playful spontaneity. . . which reminds viewers of joyful times in their lives” to the appearance as lecturer/demonstrating artist. He works with acrylic and watercolor on paper, using high contrast and “energetic relationships of shapes, color harmonies and calligraphic strokes”. These techniques shine from the accompanying photo of a watercolor composition entitled “Mykonos Windmills”, above. Regarding his artistic development, Setton describes a self-directed journey. Formal training at California Art Institute has been followed by attendance at selected workshops and seminars, extensive reading, the “eye training” that museums and art shows provide, and broad travel. He expresses gratitude for his success, as demonstrated by wide exhibition of his work in private, national and international collections. Numerous awards have honored his participation in local, national and international shows. The artist has broadened the reach of his thinking on art by teaching workshops, demonstrations, and through his published writings on the subject. LLCAA* meetings take place in the Loma Linda Senior Center, located at the southeastern corner of the Loma Linda Civic Center complex, at 25541 Barton Road, in Loma Linda. The art-loving public is welcome; a $5.00 donation is asked of non-LLCAA members. There is no cost to Loma Linda University students.
