HDR Engineering, Inc. of Irvine has received an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACECCA) for their work on the Colton Crossing Flyover Rail-to-Rail Grade Separation in Colton. Using a design that helped deliver the project more than $100 million under budget eight months ahead of schedule, HDR helped Union Pacific eliminate a bottleneck at one of the nation’s busiest rail-to-rail intersections by constructing an 8,150-foot flyover structure to take the client’s east/west tracks 35 feet above the north/south tracks of BNSF Railway. The project reduces delays, improves air quality and decreases noise for local residents. HDR Engineering, Inc. was honored at the 2014 EEA Banquet held Feb. 3 in Sacramento.
