A fire broke out at the Grand Terrace Health Care Center Sunday night, prompting evacuation of 23 residents for safety reasons.

About 23 residents at the Grand Terrace Health Care Center on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Grand Terrace were evacuated as a precaution on Sunday night, Aug. 9 after a fire broke out in the home, San Bernardino County fire officials said. The fire was confined to the kitchen, said San Bernardino County Fire Battalion Chief Dan Meja. Firefighters responded to the report of the fire at about 7:40 that evening. He said smoke was visible from the rear portion of the structure when the first fire unit showed up on scene. Meja said the fire was "held in check" thanks to the home's sprinkler system. San Bernardino County fire department spokesperson Tracey Martinez said as far as she knew, the residents had been able to go back into the care center on Sunday night, after being evacuated. Meja said there were no injuries as a result of the blaze and fire officials were still investigating the fire's cause.
