Each third grader in the San Bernardino City Unified School District will now be the owner of their own personal dictionary, donated from the Rotary Club of San Bernardino, in partnership with Stater Bros. Charities. Kicking off the Dictionary Project at Lincoln Elementary School on Dec. 9, the Rotary Club of San Bernardino served third graders personal dictionaries to help foster educational success. Approximately 5,000 dictionaries will be delivered to third graders in nearly 60 SBCUSD and parochial schools. According to educators, students who meet grade-level reading standards by third grade are more likely to succeed in school. Rotary member Ed Ridder said, "We focus our efforts on third graders because that is such an important milestone in a child’s educational life. We hope the children will use the dictionaries at school and at home to become good readers and writers.” “Stater Bros. Charities has been instrumental in making the Dictionary Project happen this year,” Ridder said. “We welcome the support and recognize that Stater Bros. Charities is a kindred spirit, focusing on helping those in need in our community.”
