The 38-member Main Street Community Band of San Bernardino is actively seeking musicians for the remaining 2014 season. Instruments that are particularly needed are French horns, trombones, tuba, clarinets and baritone sax. Membership is open to adults 18 years of age and older.
There is no audition required; however, three years or more of playing experience in high school or college ensembles is desired.
Rehearsals are friendly and relaxed, yet focused on making a quality musical performance.
Past performances have included theme parks, malls, civic events, arts festivals, TV and radio shows, parks, band festivals, educational workshops, clinics and conventions. The band has had tours in the past throughout California and has performed in Hawaii, Nevada and Arizona, showcasing a repertoire of marches, classic transcriptions, novelty tunes, solo with band features, Broadway musicals, themed concerts, seasonal observances, jazz, pop, Latin and patriotic favorites.
The Main Street Community Band is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Tax-deductible donations toward the Paul L. Kardos Scholarship Fund are awarded each year to a deserving high school senior who has shown merit through audition and performance in their school instrumental music program, and a performance with the band.
The group meets every Wednesday night, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge, 2055 Elks Drive, San Bernardino. The band takes a summer hiatus. Those wishing to participate are invited sit in at rehearsals.
