Colton's summer concert series drew an estimated 1,000 people on Sunday evening, Aug. 10.
The concert featured The Flamingo Band with Jessica Baeza as well as food vendors, local artists, Relay for Life, and a kid zone.
Further entertainment was provided by DJ Carlos Alba Jr. from Old School Mobile DJs. There was a large area for dancing and many people took advantage of it.
Colton Recreation Coordinator Kelly Phelps, explained that part of the reason that Colton enjoys such large crowds is that "Colton's Commissioners come out and join the community." Further, Phelps said, "Colton's concerts even draw people from other communities."
Phelps and members of her staff, Lisa Sandoval, Brianna Sinclair and Robert Saldana, offered raffle tickets and an assortment of "freebies" and information about the city of Colton to event attendees. Colton mayoral candidate Richard DeLaRosa said, "Colton is a proud community" with a "we can do it" attitude.
Brian Alford, of Carl's Concessions Hemet, along with team members Summer Devore and Kelly Martinez, served nachos and what Alford calls "the best" bacon-wrapped hot dogs anywhere. Other vendors offered kettle corn, soft drinks and ice cream treats.
Aug. 10 was to be the last of the summer 2014 concerts, but Phelps announced that a "make up" concert will be held on Aug. 24 at Fleming Park, 525 N. La Cadena Dr. Colton. Phelps encourages everyone to attend. The Colton concerts are always free to the public.
