City to Host Household Hazardous EWaste Collection Day

MORENO VALLEY>> The City of Moreno Valley and Riverside County Waste Management Department will host a Household Hazardous Waste collection event on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City's Corporate Yard, located at 15670 Perris Boulevard. The one-day event is open to all Riverside County residents. Waste from businesses or non-profits will not be accepted.
Items accepted include: pesticides, antifreeze, bleach, garden chemicals, paint (latex and oil based), paint thinner, varnish, flammable liquids, muriatic acid, mercury devices (thermometers and thermostats), aerosols, grout, pool and spa chemicals, household cleaners and disinfectants, oil, gasoline, automobile batteries, sharps (medical syringes), sodium vapor lamps, propane tanks and used cooking oil.
Common E-Waste items accepted are: digital cameras, DVRs, digital picture frames, laptops, computers, stereos and speakers, printers and fax machines, telephones, cords, systems, cell phones, beepers, pagers, uninterruptible power supplies, security systems, processors, monitors, circuit boards, GPS devices, video game consoles, MP3 players, DVDs and VCRs, household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, incandescent light bulbs, microwaves and televisions.
Residents are allowed multiple trips, but are limited to 125 pounds or 15 gallons of material per trip. Individual containers should be no larger than five gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds.
Residents may dispose of their bulky waste including sofas, desks, mattresses, beds, kitchen appliances, washer and dryers, via free curbside pick-up by scheduling with Waste Management at (800)423-9986. Bulky items may also be taken to the Waste Management Transfer Station, located at 17700 Indian Street.
The following items cannot be accepted: tires, explosives, radioactive materials, medical waste, asbestos, or hazardous waste. These items should not be thrown away with regular garbage or placed in curbside recycling containers. In addition, the city does not accept glass for recycling. Glass can be disposed with regular solid waste or recycled independently.
This collection event supports the City's Keep Moreno Valley Beautiful initiatives, to ensure a cleaner, greener Moreno Valley.
