Mr. Smee, played by Jace Dewey is surrounded by Captain Hook played by Daniel Villegas along with pirates in Butterfield Elementary’s performance of Peter Pan.

Students at Butterfield Elementary School in Moreno Valley put on a series of outstanding performances of the play Peter Pan this past week, to the delight of crowds of students, parents and the public. The cast with accompanying chorus consisted of 92 students from the third, fourth, and fifth grade classes. Nancy Allbee, Title 1 teacher and play director said, “It was certainly a challenge to coordinate 92 students during these past two months of preparation. But they did a fantastic job of learning their lines and playing their roles for these hour and a half long performances.” For fifth grader Andres Callazo who played the part of Peter Pan, it was a memorable farewell performance, because he and his fellow fifth graders will be leaving Butterfield and moving on to middle school in a few months. Shelcey Quintanilla who was in the accompanying chorus said, “The play was inspiring because it was about making wishes come true.” The play also inspired a number of other students to look ahead and say that they wanted to pursue a career in acting when they were older.
