On Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Riverside National Cemetery, thousands gathered to honor the veterans of the armed corps who lived and died.
Adorned on every headstone in the cemetery was a small American flag planted by volunteers from the Flags for Heroes program honored the service of each member of the military for their service in battle. The event garnered thousands of attendants consisting of families, fellow veterans, and proud American citizens wanting to show their respect and patriotism for the event.
Consisting of over 175,000 graves and spanning over 900 acres, the Riverside National Cemetery is the third largest cemetery by the NCA (National Cemetery Association). To kick off the celebration, jets from the March Air Reserve Base, located adjacent to the cemetery, flew overhead officially opening the event to the public and showing patriotism for veterans and fallen soldiers.
Everywhere across the cemetery were American flags both small and large placed as well as the American flags adorned on peoples cars and motorcycles.
Red, white, and blue flowers were placed on headstones, and people dressed in themed colors.
