Saturday August 18th, marked the 2nd Annual Grand Terrace High School Community Kickoff Party. The event is organized by the GTHS Football Boosters and is designed with the intent to bring the community together to kick off the football season. Although the temps were in the high 90’s for the event, the Grand Terrace community came out to show support for the Titan football program. With delicious food, classic games such as a dunk tank, and vendors of all types, the “fair” type atmosphere attracted community-minded people of all ages.
The Titans were simultaneously hosting a youth football camp for those “Future Titans” hoping to get an early edge in the sport and a jump on their future competition. The camp attendees worked on skills such as: fundamentals of football, form tackling, and breaking down. The stations were setup and manned by current GTHS football players and coaches. Head Coach Ryan Smalls could be seen moving from station to station providing instruction as well as encouragement to the “Future Titans.” Campers were encouraged to stay hydrated and lunch was provided by GTHS Football boosters.
A host of local dignitaries from Grand Terrace could be spotted throughout the day as well as addressing the camp attendees, players, and cheer squad with messages of encouragement and well-wishes for a successful season. In one demonstration, Mayor Darcy Mc Naboe thanked those in attendance for “making Grand Terrace a wonderful place and a focal point of the Inland Empire” as well as thanking the players and coaches in advance for “making this a winning season.” CJUSD Education Board member Randall Ceniceros, along with Grand Terrace City council members Doug Wilson and Kenneth Henderson were also in attendance to show their support for the program.
The 2018-2019 Titan football season kicked off Friday night against John W. North High School in Riverside. The Titans shut out the Huskies in a 21-0 relatively easy victory. You can see them in action this Friday on their home turf when they face Yucaipa in the first league game of the season. Kickoff is at 7pm, come out and show your Titan spirit!
