On Sunday, January 13, from 2 to 4 pm the Loma Linda Cultural Arts Association* will welcome artist Martha Cowan as demonstrator/lecturer for the first monthly meeting of 2019.  Cowan is one of those whose natural gifts were recognized and supported by art-minded parents.  She relates that her first painting class—at age 13--convinced her that she had found her life work: oil painting!  The study, exploration, production and finally teaching of art has absorbed and delighted her since then.  “I know that in teaching, I also continue to learn”, she states.  She is drawn to give significance to things and people, who often go unnoticed.  Abandoned places, structures, and found objects prompt her to make visible the life and emotion they seem to exude. A member of both the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America, she has both demonstrated painting and judged art shows around Southern California. A 2018 gold medal award from the San Dimas Festival of Arts is only the latest of honors paid to her work, which has been published in various art magazines.  Her paintings hang in many private collections. LLCAA* meetings are held in the Loma Linda Senior Center building, which is located at the southeastern corner of the Loma Linda Civic Center complex, at 25541 Barton Road, in Loma Linda.  The public is invited; a $5.00 donation is requested from non-LLCAA members.  There is no cost to Loma Linda University students.
