Moreno Valley Math League showcased student work at the recent 2nd Annual STEM Symposium at the San Diego Convention Center. Math Leaguers Ryan Sanchez, Eli Martinez, Alejandra Robles, Dai’Lon Young, Daphne Serrano, Jack Kolkebeck, Sandra Arias, Elisa Fogerty, Amber Lizarraga, Jose Gonzalez and Patrick Saade traveled to San Diego to represent the district. They went with Math League coaches Lori Lee, Camille Bates, Jennifer Smith, David Coopersmith and Deepika Srivastava. Also on hand were Superintendent Dr. Judy D. White, Asst. Supt. Dr. Martinrex Kedziora and Dir. of Secondary Education Maribel Mattox.
The field trip gave students a chance to showcase their talent, and provided a unique opportunity to interact and share information with students from other STEM programs from around the country.
The Math League booth proved pretty popular, drawing visits from dignitaries including Pamela Clute, Asst. Vice Chancellor, UC Riverside; Dick Gale, CTA Grant Director; Mae Cendana, statewide coordinator of the UC Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement (MESA) program; Jamie Hyneman, host of TV’s popular Myth Busters; and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.
