San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officers responded during the early morning hours of Friday, June 28, to a fatal traffic collision that left two injured and one dead at the intersection of Barton Road and Preston Street in Grand Terrace, where a minor two-vehicle accident occurred the previous weekend.
Two passengers—Jenae Reliford, 19, of Colton and George Poma, 19, of Grand Terrace—survived the crash but were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The driver, an unidentified 19 year-old female from Rialto, was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center after the collision but did not survive her injuries. At the time of press, it is currently unknown in what condition the passengers remain and if they are still receiving medical care at LLUMC.
According to a statement issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the collision occurred at 12:15 a.m. on June 28, as the unidentified driver was taking her passengers, Reliford and Poma, home after a night out.
Reliford, who was the front passenger, “reported the driver was arguing with Poma, who was sitting in the rear seat of the vehicle,” according to the statement issued by the Sheriff’s Department. “While traveling at approximately 50–60 miles per hour, the driver began to swerve back and forth while arguing. She lost control of the vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic, jumped the curb and hit a large pine tree,” the release states.
Police reports indicate that neither Poma nor the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Drugs and/or alcohol may be a factor in the incident, according to police reports.
The release states that the collision is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Region I Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.).
