VVUSD Launches Electronic Lobby Management System

The Val Verde Unified School District is excited to announce the launch of a progressive electronic lobby management system that will further protect school children from unauthorized visitors or sex registrants on school campuses. The District has partnered with Raptorware Technologies who will be providing the hardware and software support for this innovative registration system. Currently the District utilizes a sign-in log where visitors write their names and basic information. This log serves as a record of who has visited the campus and the purpose of their visit. Under the new Raptor system, a first-time visitor will be required to present a government issued identification to a school employee who will scan the identification. This scan will only take seconds to perform. Once scanned, the information will only be checked against the sex offender database to ensure the person is not a registered sex offender. When the check is completed, an adhesive visitor badge will be printed and given to the visitor clearly identifying them as an approved visitor. During future visits to the school site, the receptionist can simply type the name of the previously scanned identification into the system and the visitor will be re-checked without the need to continually present their identification. If, during the sign-in process, the system detects a close match, the registered offender’s photograph will be shown to the school employee so they can physically compare the visitor to the offender and determine if the visitor is an actual match. If the visitor is not a match, the system will print the visitor badge. If the visitor is a match, the visitor will be referred to an administrator to determine the next course of action. The system will maintain a list of all visitors on campus and in the event of an emergency a list can be printed and given to first responders to assist with accounting for all persons on the school site. Superintendent Juan Lopez commented, “We are extremely pleased to be launching this system. It is one of the many components we are using to ensure the students and staff in our District are as safe as possible.” The District is currently installing the system at each of the school sites and will begin using the system once the equipment is installed and the staff is trained on the registration process. Parents will be notified via handout and automated phone calls as to when the system will go into effect. The following types of identification will be accepted: • State or U.S. Government issued identification cards • Military identification card • U.S. Passport • Consular card • Voter Registration cards (from countries who issue them) • Resident Alien cards • Other forms of identification will be reviewed on a case by case basis Anyone who does not have one of the above listed forms of identification is encouraged to contact Jonathan Moreno at 951-941-6100 ext. 10675. The purpose of the program is to ensure our students are safe at all times. The District will work with parents/visitors who do not have identification to ensure they can participate in their student’s education without compromising our commitment to student safety.
