Police Warn Against Apparent Scam

San Bernardino police are warning residents against a phone scam authorities have received multiple calls about last week. Police say they have been contacted by several residents who reportedly received calls from an individual identifying themselves as a representative of the San Bernardino City police department. Residents report being told by the individual that there is a warrant for their arrest and if the citizen fails to pay the warrant they will be arrested by San Bernardino police officials. The caller then reportedly attempts to solicit payment for the warrant, officials said. Callers have been both male and female, police say. A release issued by the police department states, “This is not an employee of the San Bernardino Police Department and this is not the type of activity that would be conducted by any law enforcement entity.” Local police are advising citizens not to provide any confidential or identifying information about themselves or family members if they receive this type of call. The release states that police are investigating the scam. Anyone with concerns or questions is asked to contact the police department at 909-384-5742 or police dispatch at 909-383-5311.
