The largest youth cheer competition throughout the entire Inland Empire, the Junior All American, took place Nov. 2. Nineteen cities throughout Southern California brought their youth teams to compete. President and founder of the Grand Terrace Youth program Hayward Robinson explained that with 19 cities, each team varied in numbers. “Some cities are bigger than others. One team may have 30 to 40 members when another would have almost 100,” he said. “An estimated guess… I would say about 1,000 kids competed.” Within the Grand Terrace Youth Titan Cheer Program, there are five different divisions all differing in ages. Cheer Coach and Assistant Cheer Coordinator Rosalyn Colvard and her Grand Terrace Lady Titans Pee Wee Division took home first place. The Grand Terrace Youth Football and Cheer Program has been running for three years, and Robinson explained it took a lot of work to be where they are now and they keep progressing every year. “It’s something to be proud of… bringing the championship back home to our city,” Robinson said. Every year at this event there is also a “Most Spirited” award up for grabs to every city participating. It’s not only based on the cheerleaders themselves or the ones who are participating in the event, but also on the fan base of these programs: based on how many people show up to support their team, if they are wearing their team's colors, who cheers the loudest for their team, and so forth. For the second year in a row, the Grand Terrace Titans won the “Most Spirited” Award. Out of 19 participating cities, Grand Terrace proved they were the ones with the most heart, spirit and overall support.
