Work Begins on Fire Station Water-Efficient Landscaping Project

Drought-tolerant landscape renovations began this week at the downtown Redlands Fire Station No. 261, located at 525 E. Citrus Ave., part of the City’s Water Efficiency Landscape Project. The City Council awarded the contract for Fire Station No. 261 Water Efficiency Landscape Project on Aug. 3 to TLC Landscape Services Inc. of Redlands in the amount of $35,839.65. Project costs will be funded by the City of Redlands water rebate fund, San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District and a Proposition 84 grant. No General Fund dollars will be used to construct this project. Enhancements to the station landscaping are anticipated to be complete in approximately one month. The landscaping at all City fire stations will be converted to xeriscape gardens. Each site will provide the public with examples of native drought-tolerant plants that help promote water conservation. Fire stations at Garden Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and Park Avenue are currently under design for xeriscaping. The Water Efficiency Landscape Project is designed and will be managed by the City of Redlands Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
