Showcasing its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Loma Linda University Medical Center – East Campus (LLUMC – East Campus) was awarded an ‘A’ for the second year in a row from The Leapfrog Group, an independent watchdog organization. Announced by the Leapfrog Group’s spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, the designations are widely considered as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive.

Jonathan Jean-Marie, vice president/administrator for LLUMC – East Campus, attributes this recognition to the medical professionals at LLUMC-East campus that are dedicated to creating a safe and healing environment for their patients every day.

“It is our goal to provide safe and quality care to every patient that comes through our door,” Jean-Marie said. “Receiving the designation as an A-grade medical center two years in row is a testament to the teamwork and dedication to that goal that exists between our physicians, nurses, clinicians, and support team members who play an important role in the care of the patient.”

The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Every member of our Loma Linda University Medical Center – East Campus works with diligent teamwork and clear commitment to improving the health of patients we serve,” said Kerry Heinrich, CEO, Loma Linda University Medical Center. “Patients and their families come to East Campus at some of the most critical moments in their lives. This second consecutive Leapfrog Award for safety clearly demonstrates that our patients and their families can be confident about the care they receive.”

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog congratulated LLUMC – East Campus in a statement to all the top hospitals.

“Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error,” Binder said. “We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this A.”

Home to over 1,000 employees including specialists, physicians, nurses and support staff, the LLUMC – East Campus employees are dedicated to providing a healing environment backed by its comprehensive inpatient and outpatient healthcare services including a hospital, physical medicine, rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurosurgery and family medicine.
