Enriquez is the Coordinator of Charge Services for Loma Linda Medical Center and decided to enter for her chance to win $1,000 after receiving a flyer at the Grand Terrace Grocery Outlet.
Thankfully, Enriquez hasn’t felt too much of a difference in her life due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has found herself living a semi-similar lifestyle, the only exception being when the pandemic had most people clearing the food and cleaning supply shelves.
“[I] Enjoy fishing with my husband, going on long drives and spending time with our grandchildren,” Enriquez said.
Enriquez was excited to learn that she had won a gift from the Sub Station and cannot wait to try this one-of a-kind restaurant out for the first time.
The Sub Station was recently voted by the Press-Enterprise as the #1 Best Sandwich Shop in the “Best of Inland Empire 2020” annual readers’ choice report.
Founded in February of 1972 at the University of California, Riverside, the Sub Station has become the oldest eatery at UCR and one of the oldest in the city.
The restaurant’s owner, Richard Munio, born and raised in Jersey, traveled to Colorado for college, however, ended up on the West Coast and graduated from Chico State in Northern California. Right after graduation Munio was drafted. Upon returning home after spending 12 months in Vietnam, he grew a bodacious “afro” and opened The Sub Station along with a college roommate.
“Under the same ownership for over 40 years, we have built a reputation for tasty East Coast subs and great employees,” said restaurant owner, Richard Munio.
The Sub Station has adapted and complied with all county and state-wide COVID-19 health safety procedures and has a comfortable covered filtered patio perfect for outside dining.
“Everything you see here is original. The tables you are sitting at and the benches that you are sitting on. They were handmade by me in 1972, along with my dad’s great carpenter skills, who built the patio cover outside and designed the one piece patio tables we still use today,”Munio said.
The Sub Station proudly serves East Coast style sub sandwiches, soups, salads and bottled beer. Their sandwiches start with a fresh Italian roll filled with your choice of meats and cheese, garnished with shredded lettuce, fresh cut tomatoes, seasonings and their signature "Secret Sauce" dressing.
With over 20 different sandwich combinations, everyone’s taste buds will truly be satisfied. The Sub Station also offers a wide variety of vegetarian subs and healthy options. The perfect sides to your sandwich range from garlic cheese bread, macaroni salad, potato salad, Deli Dills, chips and cookies.
“The Sub Station has always been about people… our employees and YOU… our great and loyal friends. We wouldn’t be here if you weren’t here. Thank you!”
