Mayor Pro Tem Wilson and Council Member Allen were appointed by the City Council to attend this year’s League of California Cities Annual Legislative Conference. This year’s conference is being held virtually on October 7 through October 9, 2020.

As being a member of the League of California Cities is an association of California city officials who work together to enhance their knowledge and skills, exchange information, and combine resources so that they may influence policy decisions that affect cities.

According to the association, each city is encouraged to select a city representative as a delegate to represent their city and cast their vote on the League’s policies. According to a City staff report, on December 11, 2018, City Council appointed Mayor Pro Tem Doug Wilson as their delegate and Council Member Jeff Allen as the alternate.

An important moment of the Legislative Conference is a Business Meeting at the General Assembly, which will be held on October 9, 2020.

In order for Grand Terrace to be able to vote during this meeting, a voting delegate must be determined. The League of California Cities requested the Council to make their decision for their voting delegate by August 31, 2020 and the council has to decide on the two alternates by September 30, 2020.

According the August 25, staff report, “The City Council’s attendees to the annual conference will be Mayor Pro Tem Wilson and Council Member Allen. The annual conference is extremely valuable for council members and offers a variety of sessions for league members to learn of innovative programs implemented throughout the State of California.”

The resolution to appoint the voting delegate and alternate was approved by the city clerk, city attorney, finance department, city manager and city council.

According to the staff report, this appointment supports the City Council Goal #4 “Develop and Implement Successful Partnerships” by working collaboratively with Public Sector, Local, Regional and State Agencies to facilitate the delivery of services to our community and to secure funding for programs and projects.
