Mobile Fresh Bus Brings Affordable Food To Senior Center

Blue Mountain Senior Villas in Grand Terrace had a surprise last Tuesday, April 27. Mobile Fresh, a bus that brings affordable and healthy food and snacks to food deserts, made its first stop in Grand Terrace at the senior center in order to provide the residents an easy access to food they might not normally purchase. The event was brought together by Healthy Grand Terrace, who has been working with Mobile Fresh since last June. It was coordinated by president of the senior center, Jane Haines, Grand Terrace Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sally McGuire, and Mobile Fresh Coordinator Joey Romero. The event was a success, with most members of the villas coming out to purchase the various goods the bus had to offer. Headquartered in Moreno Valley, “Mobile Fresh is a part of the Food Service Association, and distributes food and other goods along Riverside County,” said Romero. According to Romero, the bus was retrofitted for food storage and used to “take access to the food for 20 to 30 percent less than selling price.” With five to 10 varieties of vegetables, bread, healthy snacks, milk and eggs, it is designed to “help address food security in both Riverside and San Bernardino Counties,” he added. Starting with this event, the Mobile Fresh Bus will now make regular trips to the Blue Mountain Villas every other Tuesday, which was highly favored by the villas residents. During these trips, the residents will be able to purchase food and snacks they need until the time comes for them to purchase more.
