MORENO VALLEY>> Members of the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce recently made a stop at the Moreno Valley High School. The Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce offers a year-long program called “Leadership Moreno Valley,” which exposes a group of Chamber members each month to another important element of the MoVal community, such as healthcare, public safety and education. For this year’s education focus, the Leadership MoVal bus stopped for a visit to Moreno Valley High School. After a warm welcome that included a performance by the MVHS jazz band, the Leadership MoVal group learned more about MVHS and MVUSD. The members now know that MVUSD’s flagship school has the largest Advancement Via Individual Determination enrollment of any school in the world, and is a national AVID demonstration site. They also learned that MVUSD’s graduation rate, which exceeds both the state and national averages, has soared 20.5 percent in the past five years. According to the chamber website, Leadership MoVal was founded in 1996, and develops community-minded business and civic leadership. This year-long interactive program provides a behind-the-scenes view of the City of Moreno Valley’s economic prosperity and quality of life. This program strives to expose participants to the processes, programs, opportunities and challenges that impact Moreno Valley, stimulate interest in community activities and encourage engagement in local and regional affairs; create a network of community leaders who will lead in a spirit of collaboration that fosters regional prosperity; and provide participants with access to the top business, civic and community leaders who play integral roles in the City of Moreno Valley.
