Water Service Interruption Planned Due to Maintenance

RIALTO>> As a new year often brings fresh beginnings, the West Valley Water District will be embarking on new infrastructure improvements to ensure the ongoing successful operation of our water distribution system with a number of water main valve replacements. Unfortunately, this means that several customers will be temporarily inconvenienced between Jan. 11 and Jan. 14 with service interruptions or decreased water pressure while the improvements are taking place. Water main valve replacements are necessary to replace aging infrastructure and ensure that WVWD can continue to provide customers with safe and reliable service. Replacing the valves will also help WVWD better respond during an emergency. WVWD’s first water main valve replacement project will occur in a portion of Rialto and 66 homes in this area will experience a water outage on either Wednesday, Jan. 11 or Thursday Jan. 12 or both days as follows: Wednesday Jan. 11, 2017 at 505-566 S Idyllwild Avenue and 505-566 S Fillmore Avenue, Thursday Jan. 12, 2017 at 593-674 S Arrowhead Avenue (between W Carter Street and W James Street) and 652 and 758 S Cactus Avenue, Wednesday Jan. 11, 2017 and Thursday Jan. 12, 2017 at 505-566 S Brampton Avenue, 701-823 W Carter Street (between S Cactus Avenue and S Arrowhead Avenue)and 565-580 S Arrowhead Avenue (near S Cactus Avenue). “These kinds of improvements are essential to maintaining our high water quality standards,” stated WVWD Board President Dr. Clifford O. Young, Sr., “We know that any construction project can pose an inconvenience for our customers, but we will work as quickly as possible to minimize the disruption to service.” In other areas near the water main valve replacement, water pressure may be reduced by up to 50 percent for approximately 1,900 homes from January 11 to January 14 in the area bordered by Merrill Avenue to the north, Cactus Avenue to the east, Linden Avenue to the west, and San Bernardino Avenue to the south. In order to help customers prepare for the planned outage, WVWD has mailed letters to customers impacted by this project and will also place a door hanger at the property 48-hours in advance. A few things that customers can do in advance to help minimize the impacts of the outage include: Fill up the bath tub or five gallon buckets so toilets can be refilled for flushing and fill clean pitchers with water and place in the refrigerator for drinking. After service is restored, customers should flush internal plumbing to eliminate air from the lines and eliminate discoloration or a milky appearance from the water. To do this, they should run the bathtub(s) faucet until the water is clear, then run remaining water faucets until the water is clear. WVWD will not need access to any homes to replace water main valves. Construction activity will begin on Jan. 9, though service will not be impacted until Jan. 11. West Valley Water District serves the communities of Bloomington, Colton, Fontana, Rialto and parts of an unincorporated area in San Bernardino and a segment of the Jurupa Valley in Riverside County.
