Over 150 youngsters received an early Christmas gift on Thursday, Dec. 19, thanks to efforts put forth by the CHP, Inland Empire Job Corps and Job Corps supporters. For two consecutive years the Inland Empire Job Corps Center and San Bernardino Area CHP have joined together to bring holiday cheer to children less fortunate at Muscoy Elementary School. Santa and two of his elves handed out toys to students that day. “We want to make sure students less fortunate at Muscoy Elementary have a memorable holiday plus this event is such a great way we, the Inland Empire Job Corps and the CHP, can demonstrate support for our community," said Business and Community Liaison of Inland Empire Job Corps Center, Claudia Lopez. “Being Santa is the best experience; kids will say the sweetest things. One girl came up to me and said, 'I talked to you last week and I asked you for pom poms.' I have always heard that saying someone's name makes them feel proud, so I always asked them their name to start and I would tell them, 'What a beautiful name!' and they would get the biggest smile on their faces," said Leadership Development Manager of Job Corps, Mike Braby. For more than four decades, Job Corps has made a difference in the lives of more than 2.6 million economically disadvantaged children. This voluntary education and job training program, for young people ages 16 through 24, offers career technical, academic and social skills training to students at 123 centers nationwide.
