The Moreno Valley Unified School District was notified Friday, December 14, 2018 that the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools has ordered a special election, to be held on March 5, 2019, to fill the Governing Board seat in Trustee Area 5 to the end of the current term in December 2020.

In accordance with Education Code section 5091, the District Governing Board provisionally appointed Darrell Peeden, on October 16, 2018, to fill the Governing Board vacancy created by the resignation of Evan Morgan. That same statute allows registered voters of the District to petition the County Superintendent of Schools, within 30 days of the provisional appointment, to call for a special election. A petition was submitted on November 15, 2018, and was determined legally sufficient on December 14, 2018.

The County Superintendent’s order immediately terminates the provisional appointment of Mr. Darrell Peeden. The District thanks Mr. Peeden for his willingness to serve the students and community of Moreno Valley Unified School District.
