On Wednesday, June 17, at approximately 1:42 p.m., deputies from the San Bernaridno County Sheriff's Central Station/Loma Linda Police responded to a major injury traffic collision. The driver of the single vehicle traffic accident, identified as 88-year-old Palm Desert resident Helaine Malinsky, was driving her 2009 Red Toyota Camry at a high rate of speed southbound on Mt. View Avenue in Loma Linda, deputies said. According to officials, Malinsky failed to stop at the red light at Barton Road. Deputies said according to witness reports, she lost control of her vehicle, which struck the water valve located on the southeast corner of Mt. View and Barton Road. Witnesses reported to police that her vehicle continued to travel along the east curb line and struck a street light pole, which was destroyed, and an Edison Power Pole. Malinsky’s vehicle came to a rest just past the west exit of the shopping center in the northbound lanes of Mt. View. Malansky’s vehicle sustained major damage and she had multiple injuries as a result of the collision. Malansky was transported to local area hospital for treatment of her injuries.
