I Cannot Be Satisfied

Are you satisfied with the level of law enforcement in “The Blue Mountain City”?  Are you satisfied with our capacity to keep our schools and children safe?  If you live on Pico, Van Buren or Michigan streets, in particular, are you satisfied with the City’s ability to capture storm water runoff and direct it in a safe and environmentally-conscious manner?  If your answer to any of the above questions is you are not satisfied with the current state of affairs, learn about my solutions at www.kenhendersongt2018.com and VOTE for me in November.

If you believe as I do, please appreciate the fact that the challenges which confront us will not be easily overcome.  In a social media-driven age of instant gratification, it is tempting to propose “solutions” that will be “accomplished” in the immediate future, hoping that you, the voters, forget such promises by the time the next election rolls around.

Know this.  Economic development is a marathon, not a sprint.  There are no overnight sensations in this field.  If you sign onto the City’s 2030 Vision and the theme of my campaign, Grand Blue Rising, please understand that nothing will suffice for the uniform, consistent implementation of a coherent, well-developed economic development strategy that is skillfully and relentlessly executed.

Candidates for public office are deservedly famous for not delivering on promises made in the heat of a campaign, so why are my promises any different?  Sometimes, you can judge the future by what has happened in the past.  In my past, working for other communities, I recruited California’s first Super Target store, which was part of a 550,000 square-foot, shopping center.  I also recruited a 1.37 million square-foot distribution and fulfillment center that created 1,100 jobs.  Moreover, I led an aggressive commercial retail recruitment program that completely eliminated a 70% sales tax leakage to nearby communities.

There’s more, but I believe you know where I am going with this.  Grand Terrace cannot cut or tax its way to economic prosperity.  The only way, in the opinion of this Council Member, is to hitch your wagons to Grand Blue Rising, the 2030 Vision and demand your City Council develop the political will necessary to execute a transformative economic development strategy and the perseverance to overcome all obstacles on the road to success.
