Voice of the People: Clearing Up Facts About the Senior Center

By Don Bartee, Treasurer, Grand Terrace Senior Center

I would like to clear up some facts about the Grand Terrace Senior Center that were submitted by Barney Karger. During 2013, there were 284 members of the Grand Terrace seniors of which 47 lived in the Blue Mountain Villas. Of the nine officers and board members, one lives in the Villas. The center is run by all volunteers and bus all its own supplies. The food service is supplied by Family Services at no cost to the city. Six community groups use the center for their meetings. The building was built and paid for by the owners of the Villas but will be given to the city in the future. Grand Terrace Seniors welcome seniors and adults over 18 from any area to participate in its activities and we only ask that they join the organization at $10 a year. I believe that by only paying for our utilities, the city of Grand Terrace has a real jewel and bargain.
