Garden Tour, Plant Sale Set

Garden lovers may want to check out the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society's 2015 Garden Tour and Plant sale, slated for next weekend, Saturday, April 18, through Sunday, April 19. Attendees will have the chance to tour this year's home gardens: The Bishops, 711 Alvarado St.; the Cozads, 360 Lakeside Ave.; Jim Gerrard, 526 Mariposa; the Aiko Howo family, 1335 Sterling Rd.; the Johansens, 18 S. Buena Vista St; the Volluccis, 135 E. Hilton; and the Cutler building, 201 Cajon St. Music will accompany the visual delights at each garden, at most sites provided live by volunteer musicians. Garden tour hours operate both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and plant sales start one hour earlier than the garden tour, running through 4 p.m. On South Cajon Street, watch for the Highland Avenue and Cajon Street directional signs to the RHIS Propagation Plant Yard in Prospect Park (Carriage House area), 1352 Prospect Drive. Also included next weekend are several talks and demonstrations, each at the Cutler building at 201 Cajon St. The schedule is as follows: Saturday, April 18: 10 a.m. - Organic vegetable gardening, presented by Beaumont Nursery 11 a.m. - Cactus/succulents, presented by Gates Cactus and Succulent Society Noon - Mini floral designs, presented by John Grimm 1 p.m. - Organic vegetable gardening, Beaumont Nursery 2 p.m. - Drought tolerant "lawnscaping," presented by Linda Richards 3 p.m. - All about bees, presented by Brian Romberg Sunday, April 19: 10 a.m. - Organic/chemical fertilizers, presented by Melody Newell 11 a.m. - Cactus/succulents, presented by Gates Cactus and Succulent Society Noon - Mini floral designs, presented by John Grimm 1 p.m. - Organic/chemical fertilizers, presented by Melody Newell 2 p.m. - Guest speaker, To Be Announced 3 p.m. – All about bees, presented by Brian Romberg Also at the Cutler building throughout the day will be the Redlands Art Association's floral art display, the Redlands Camera Club's floral photography display, and the Redlands Historical Museum's display.
