GRAND TERRACE>> Some senior citizens and Grand Terrace High School students came together Sept. 10 for a night of games, laughter and community at the Grand Terrace Senior Center. Game Night at the Grand Terrace Senior Center takes place every second Saturday of each month from 6-9 p.m. and senior citizens are encouraged to attend next month’s Game Night. This month’s event had a football theme where students and senior citizens could dress up in their sports clothing to kick off the football season with support of their favorite team. Flo Elliott, secretary of the board the Grand Terrace Senior Center, sported a Broncos shirt for the evening. Elliott helped organize the night along with the help of Denis Kidd, Grand Terrace Senior Center board member. “Our center is run entirely by volunteers so Denis and I volunteer our time to do this,” she said. “(It was nice that the students) came to help with the decorations. With participation from 38 high school students, clubs from Grand Terrace High School including the Leo’s Club, Interact Club and the Honor Society Club joined in on the fun. “We had our first event of the year and it was very well attended,” Elliott said. “Everybody was having so much fun, the building was full and there was laughter in every single room.” With line dancing, pool, card games, dominoes, spoons, a puzzle, Nintendo Wii, the 18 seniors who attended the event had a chance to interact with the youth and enjoy their Saturday night. “You would just hear people laughing in one room and people laughing in the other room,” Elliott said. “It was really a lot of fun.” The next Game Night will be held Oct. 8, and the event will be Halloween themed. Elliott said more senior citizens are encouraged to attend and wear a costume. Prizes will be given out that evening from a drawing and adults who would like to come are asked to bring a snack item. For more information, contact the Grand Terrace Senior Center at (909) 824-1491.
